Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lake Charles located in Calcasieu Parish have had the start date for the 2020-2021 school year pushed back to Monday, Aug. 24, while Our Lady Immaculate Catholic School in Jennings has announced it will open on the original date of Thursday, Aug. 13, according to Kimberlee Gazzolo, superintendent of Catholic schools.
The opening of schools will be for both in-person and virtual instruction. “This decision was made after consultation with the COVID-19 taskforce and our healthcare partners,” Gazzolo said. “More details will be released in the upcoming days about our virtual school option, which will be offered at all schools in the Diocese of Lake Charles."
In the most recent correspondence from the Office of Catholic Schools sent to families and employees, Gazzolo wrote "As we plan for the re-opening of schools we continue to rely and are in constant contact with our school administrators, pastors, parents, school stakeholders and diocesan leadership. Also, I am fortunate to be able to speak almost daily with my Catholic Superintendent colleagues throughout the state. We continue to be grateful to CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana and the medical professionals we have partnered with."
