"Day of Prayer for Spiritual Directors"

Ends: 8/16/2008
|
Saint Charles Center |
Presenter: Rev. Don Piraro August 16, 2008 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Saint Charles Center will host a day of contemplative prayer for the spiritual directors of the area. This time includes periods for contemplative prayer, mutual support, and lunch. The night before the Spiritual Directors International Conference began in Northern Virginia in March, “A Gathering of Wisdom: The Art and Practice of Presence” was held. Three older wisdom figures who have written and reflected on the art of spiritual direction for many years reflected together on the art of being present to others in the practice of spiritual direction. It was a remarkable evening. For our presentation, we will watch a DVD of this event and reflect on what we hear and on our own practice of direction. Fr. Don Piraro will facilitate. The suggested donation is $12. Pre-registration at 337-855-1232 is helpful.

Ends: 8/28/2008
|
Saint Charles Center |
Presenter: Fr. Don Piraro August 28, 2008 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Spiritual Book Club is an informal group of women and men who read a good spiritual book and come together to eat supper and to discuss the selection. The book for August is Walk in a Relaxed Manner, Life Lessons from the Camio by Joyce Rupp. Since the second century, the idea of journey has been a key image for the spiritual life. In the middle ages, when pilgrimages to holy places became popular, that notion of the physical journey is joined to that spiritual image. One of the most popular routes was the Camino De Santiago in northern Spain. After nearly a thousand years of continual use, the American spiritual writer, Joyce Rupp walked the nearly 500 mile path in northern Spain together with her friend, Fr. Tom Pfeffer. Walk in a Relaxed Manner is her account of their pilgrimage and the spiritual wisdom learned. To register, call 337-855-1232. The suggested donation is $12.
