Miller began her association with St. Louis as a parent volunteer while her four children were receiving an education here. In 1982 she was hired as Director of Development, Executive Director of the St. Louis Foundation, and Director of Public Relations.
As Recruitment Chairman, she along with a team of volunteers implemented an aggressive recruitment plan, including an extensive Open House inviting thousands of prospective parents and students to tour the school and see St. Louis students in action. Enrollment soared from 383 students to a high of 575. Inspired by her success, she extended her recruitment efforts to that of bringing home alumni. Miller also put together many alumni events and began corresponding with some 14,500 alumni, parents and friends of St. Louis bringing many back to close collaboration with the school.
In her role as the Public Relations chairperson, she wrote news releases and feature articles, coordinated print, radio, T.V., and church bulletin releases, and authored, designed, and produced school brochures, getting the word out about school activities to parents, alumni, and friends.
She also served as advisor to the Home and School Association, helping with special events such as Harvest Festival, Golden Bingo, and Dinner Auction, while also chairing the annual Phonathon and special fundraisers. Through her many efforts, saw to the raising of more than $4 million for St. Louis Catholic. Among the more significant drives were the ones which built the Kimberly K. Krajicek Gymnasium, the H.C. Drew Science Center, the Marching-In campaign to furnish the science labs, and refurbishing the Landry Memorial Gym with a new roof and a new floor.
Miller is a charter member of the St. Louis Foundation, established in 1983, and she guided its board of directors in establishing an endowment of $1.6 million, which provided11 permanently endowed scholarships. She oversaw the launching of Legacy Society during the 20 years of service to St. Louis and it was with her guidance that a Landry Memorial alumnus made the largest gift in the school’s history in 2007. The endowment has now grown to more than $2.8 million, providing 13 scholarships.
Even after closing one door with her official retirement, Miller found that another door, or perhaps it was a window, opened for her. A new vision for St. Louis provided her with an opportunity to continue using her organizational skills as she took over the role of director of the Opening Windows Capital Campaign in 2002. This most ambitious of the campaigns ever undertaken by the school brought in $1,355,000 in pledges before her second retirement in 2003.
The ultimate success for Opening Windows allowed for the addition of a new Learning Resource Center and Library, new classrooms and laboratories, Health and Physical Education Center, covered entryway, renovation of existing classrooms and gymnasiums along with unified architectural designs and landscaping throughout the campus.
Having lived in Lake Charles most of her life, Miller is a graduate of Lake Charles High School and McNeese State University where she earned a Bachelors degree in Nursing. She worked in Labor and Delivery at Christus St. Patrick Hospital and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, before beginning her long and fruitful association with St. Louis. Now retired, she travels as much as possible with her husband, Remy Miller. She enjoys her four children - Chris Ieyoub, Laura Ieyoub Yonich, Allison Ieyoub Davis, and John Ieyoub as well as her stepchildren - Danny Miller, Becky Miller Burton, and Dr. Dennis Miller. She also divides her time among 19 grandchildren.
