In July of 2003 the Diocese of Lake Charles entered into an agreement with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to use their copyrighted Religion Curriculum Guide. The Office of Religious Education and the Office of Catholic Schools provided each parish and school with a copy of the Religion Curriculum Guide after it was edited and adapted for use in the Diocese of Lake Charles.
Parish and school catechetical leaders and catechists/teachers are to use this Religion Curriculum Guide along with the religion texts currently approved for use in the diocese to ensure that our young people receive the sound Catholic education they deserve.
Throughout the year, when each part of a standard has been taught, the catechist/teacher is to document it on Appendix 3, “The Catechist/Teacher Checklist.”
In the Catholic schools, these checklists are to be turned in to the principals quarterly, with the school catechetical leader monitoring the breadth of coverage of the standards.
In the parish programs, these checklists are to be turned in to the parish catechetical leader prior to the end of the catechetical year, in order for the catechetical leader to monitor the breadth of coverage of the standards. In May of each year, the catechetical leader is to provide a copy of the checklists to the Office of Religious Education.
The high school religious education programs are based on the doctrinal elements from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which can be found by clicking here.
