LAKE CHARLES — Something Bishop Glen John Provost enjoys most about visiting Catholic schools are the students. On January 31, 2024, many students in the Diocese of Lake Charles had the chance to visit him in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for a special Mass to celebrate the 50th year of National Catholic Schools Week.

Seniors from St. Louis Catholic High School and eighth-grade students from the other five Catholic schools in the Diocese gathered to celebrate the gift of their faith-based learning. The Mass coincided with the Memorial of St. John Bosco, a champion for the education of Catholic youth. 

The Office of Catholic Schools announces the Diocese of Lake Charles 2024 Student of the Year winners for elementary, middle, and high school levels.

In the spirit of Christian hope, the Diocese of Lake Charles announces the death of Reverend Monsignor Arthur B. Calkins who passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Monsignor Calkins, a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, was in residence at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, La. The Order of Christian Funeral will be celebrated on the following schedule:

Helping students grow in spirit, mind and body is what Catholic education is all about. Schools in the Diocese of Lake Charles will have the opportunity to celebrate this during the 50th year of National Catholic Schools Week scheduled January 28 – February 3. The theme is “United in Faith and Community.”

LAKE CHARLES — Children walking with their parents during the annual Louisiana March for Life Southwest enjoyed jumping in puddles along the one-mile route from Veterans Memorial Park to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, January 22. The pro-life March takes place every year on the “Day of Prayer for Legal Protection for Unborn Children.”
