DEACON LAROCCA

LAKE CHARLES — As he draws closer to his priesthood ordination, Deacon Hunter LaRocca said that his prayer has been, “Lord, I just want to be a good priest. Please make me a good priest. This is all I want to do.”

His Excellency, Bishop Glen John Provost, will ordain Rev. Mr. Hunter Thomas LaRocca to the Sacred Order of Holy Priesthood for the Diocese of Lake Charles at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

“I never thought I was the most worthy person to undertake something as important as becoming a priest, nevertheless, I feel convicted that this is what God wants from me,” LaRocca shared. “I pray that He will give me the grace to live out this vocation with fidelity.”

LAKE CHARLES — A team of Seminarians held on to their championship title for the third year in a row claiming an 11-5 victory over a team of Priests during the 2025 Bishop’s Invitational Wiffle Ball Classic. The annual fundraiser for the Serra Club that supports the Office of Vocations took place on Saturday, August 2, in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Family Life Center gymnasium.

Despite Monsignor Daniel Torres making a grand entrance and presenting the Seminarians with a wrapped gift of Kleenex in anticipation of their defeat, it would be the Team of Priests who needed the tissue when the final bat was swung.

In a powerful display of faith in action, Catholic Charities agencies from across Louisiana and Southeast Texas united to support families affected by the devastating July 4th flooding in the Texas Hill Country. Through region-wide coordination and direct partnership with Catholic Charities of San Antonio, these agencies, including Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana in Lake Charles, are providing 176 pallets of in-kind relief supplies and contributing more than $42,520 in gift cards and $175,580 in monetary donations to aid immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts.

RAGLEY — When we give to God our time, talents, and treasures, He will take care of the rest. That’s something the faith community of St. Pius X Catholic Church is counting on.

The “little Catholic church” on Highway 171 launched its “Building the Future, Rooted in Faith” Capital Campaign at the beginning of 2025, but efforts to raise money started long before the targeted fundraising was official.

CAMERON PARISH — It has been nearly 70 years since Hurricane Audrey roared ashore in the early morning hours of June 27, 1957, along the coastline of Southwest Louisiana. There are many still alive who will never forget the destruction and loss of life, nor that of catastrophic storms in recent memory.
