Welcome to the Diocese of Lake Charles

SULPHUR – Nearly 700 people took part in the recent Called2BCatholic Family Music Festival – “Embrace It, Proclaim It”, sponsored by the Office Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Diocese of Lake Charles, according to Milissa Thibodeaux, director. The venue for the event was the Sulphur High School Freshman Campus.

The day was highlighted by the celebration of Mass by The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles. The Festival’s main stage brought together numerous Catholic Christian musical entertainers for the day, including Heath Mosser, Gabriel’s Cry, Augie Leal, Greg Walton, Nichole Ackoury Lanthier, Josh Blakesley, ValLimar Jensen, and Ceili Rain. An hour of Eucharistic Adoration ended the day with music by Cooper Ray and Blakesley.

The Vocations.com Coffee Shop saw a number of speakers talking about a variety of “vocations”. Those who made presentations included Bishop Provost, Rev. Whitney Miller, Rev. Nathan Long, who spoke about their own priestly vocations, along with members of the laity, Kenny Lantier, David and Kate Dawson, Katie Prejean, Joshua Boutte and Chip Gauthe.

According to Mrs. Thibodeaux, the day was great.

“Ceili Rain was amazing,” Mrs. Thibodeaux continued. “The crowd really loved their energy on stage and off-stage they were very interactive with the youth. Even though they did not go perform until after Mass, they were at the Festival all day.

“Another real hit was the Vocations.com Coffee Shop,” she said. “The crowds were great for every speaker and the feedback on all the talks was very positive.”

The crowds who attended the presentations on the Music and Ministry Stage were large.

“Katie Prejean had over 150 people at her talk and Cooper Ray had more than that, which told me people were really looking for teaching and a message, as there was a concert on the main stage at that same time.” she continued. kidszoneforchrist.jpg

A special “Kid’s Zone for Christ” drew children 10 and younger and had varied interactive games and activities. Included in those youthful experiences were rosary making, origami, sand art, and many others.
