Welcome to the Diocese of Lake Charles

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”   John 6:56

My Dear People of God,

“At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood.   This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the Cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection:  a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet ‘in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us’” (Sacrosanctum concilium, 47, cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1323).

“I proclaim to you good news of great joy.” The angel proclaimed that message to the poor shepherds over 2,000 years ago. The “good news of great joy” lives on. We see it in the faces of children beneath the Christmas tree, in acts of charity to the victims of natural disasters, in visits to the homebound, and in welcoming the stranger and the immigrant. The “good news of great joy” is alive and well in hearts open to truth and goodness. May that “good news of great joy” be yours in abundance. The Catholic faithful of the Diocese of Lake Charles join me in offering you our heartfelt greetings for a Merry Christmas!
