The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

To the Faithful of the Diocese of Lake Charles

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On this historic day, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we offer thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for the Supreme Court’s decision in support of human life, consistent with the Constitution of this nation. For many decades we have prayed for this moment. We have advocated for human life through the March for Life, on the local, state, and national levels, as well as many other initiatives. At the same time, we must realize that the struggle to advance a greater respect for human life is not over. We must continue to support expectant mothers, their children, and all who struggle to choose life. We remain committed to supporting all persons in crisis.

Bishop Provost has released the following statement on the Supreme Court decision regarding Dobbs v. Jackson:

"We live in a democratic republic governed by laws and under an established Constitution. We must respect our system of government but, above all, the revealed truths of our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church. Our Christian values, not to mention human decency, prompt us to act civilly and protect human life both born and unborn."

At the Diocesan Finance Council meeting held on June 21, 2022, Bishop Provost approved the creation of a policy for maternity and paternity leave for the Diocese of Lake Charles and associated entities, including the parishes and Catholic Schools. The Bishop appointed the Director of Fiscal Affairs, Mr. Jacob Troutman, and the Vicar General for Administration, Father Ruben Buller, to oversee the creation of the particulars of the policy, which is envisioned to take effect in July 2023.
