The Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops (LCCB) has released a statement on Laudato Si’, the Encyclical Letter of His Holiness, Pope Francis published on June 18.

 


LAKE CHARLES – A chance good deed for a friend turned into almost three decades of service to the Diocese of Lake Charles for Sandra Jones, who worked for each of the three bishops of this local church.

LAKE CHARLES – Two seminarians of the Diocese of Lake Charles – John Souder and Michael Caraway – studying at the Pontifical North American College (PNAC) in Rome will be Val J. Peter Scholars this fall, according to information provided to Bishop Glen John Provost by Msgr. James Checchio, Rector of the College.


LAKE CHARLES – The six-page insert of the Catholic Calendar, which appears on the third Friday of each month, will change on Friday, July 17, when it returns to two facing pages published, generally, on the first and third Friday in the main sections of the American Press, though there will only be one publication this July.

LAKE CHARLES – Father Rommel Tolentino celebrated a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form on Thursday, June 4, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for the Feast of Corpus Christi (the Body and Blood of Christ). Bishop Glen John Provost presided and Father Nathan Long and Father D.B. Thompson assisted.

WESTLAKE -- The 2015 Bishop's Golf Classic will be played on Friday, Oct. 2,  at the National Golf Club of Louisiana, 2801 Louisiana Way.  The four-person scramble tournament will feature only an afternoon round, beginning with a 1 p.m. shotgun start following lunch.

CAMERON – Bishop Glen John Provost celebrated a Votive Mass to Avert Storms on Wednesday, June 3, in the Historic Shrine of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. This annual liturgy comes at the beginning of Hurricane Season, which opened on Monday, June 1.

LAKE CHARLES – Mrs. Nicole Monk has been selected as the administrative assistant to Bishop Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, effective July 1, 2015, according to Monsignor Daniel A. Torres, Vicar General.

LAKE CHARLES -- The Catholic Extension Society has offered a challenge to raise seminary funding to the Diocese of Lake Charles.  For every donation of $1,000 or more to the Seminary Burse Endowment, Catholic Extension will match the offering with 50 cents on every $1.00 given.  By raising $50,000 by December 31, 2015, we will receive $25,000 in matching funds.
