When a grandmother celebrates her 90^th birthday or a couple observes their 50^th wedding anniversary, there is rarely just one celebration.   Family dinners are prepared, friends host parties, and visits are planned to the honorees.  The moment is too grand, the accomplishment too significant, the affection too deep to be contained in just one moment.   So, also, the Church celebrates Easter.

Bishop Glen John Provost celebrated the Mass of Chrism with the priests of the Diocese on Wednesday, April 13, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  At this Mass, customarily in Holy Week, the Bishop blessed the holy oils to be used throughout the year for sacramental celebrations in the Diocese of Lake Charles.  He addressed his homily to the priests and offered the following reflection:

The Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops has consistently and resolutely provided pastoral teaching on the sacredness of life from conception to natural death. This statement provides an update in light of the current 2022 Louisiana Legislative Session.

Effective Easter Monday, April 18, Father Jude Brunnert, M.S., will retire from the pastorate of St. Joseph in DeRidder, remaining in the Diocese of Lake Charles, residing at Villa Maria in Lake Charles as a senior priest.
