LAKE CHARLES – The Catholic schools of the Diocese of Lake Charles will begin the 2018-2019 school year with the return of students to classes on Friday, August 10, at Our Lady Immaculate Catholic School in Jennings and on Thursday, August 16, at the six schools located in Calcasieu Parish.

MOSS BLUFF – Bishop Glen John Provost has approved the final plans and specifications for the Camp Karol Catholic Retreat Center, according to Father Whitney Miller, Director of Saint Charles Center and Camp Karol.

OPELOUSAS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, July 3, for Reverend Monsignor Louis J. Melancon, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lake Charles, in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Msgr. Melancon, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 30.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced Tuesday, July 24, that the sacred remains of Saint Katharine Drexel will be transferred from the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament Motherhouse and Shrine in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. The new location for Saint Katharine Drexel’s tomb is expected to be open to the public in September following the completion of the newly constructed Cathedral tomb.

Humanae Vitae (HV) is an encyclical written by Blessed Pope Paul VI on July 25, 1968 to reaffirm the orthodox teaching of the Catholic Church on married love, responsible parenthood and the continued rejection of unnatural forms of birth control and abortion. It affirmed traditional Church moral teaching on the sanctity of life and the procreative and unitive nature of conjugal relations.
