Bishop Provost has sent the following letter to the Clergy of the Diocese of Lake Charles on the important contribution of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.   He also felt that the Catholic faithful of the Diocese would be interested in reading this reflection and its message.

NEW ORLEANS – Two seminarians of the Diocese of Lake Charles, Deacon Samuel John Orsot and William Watkins Fruge, were awarded graduate degrees from Notre Dame Seminary Graduate School of Theology during the school’s 69th Commencement Exercise on May 10. Deacon Orsot earned a Master of Divinity Cum Laude and Fruge was awarded a Master of Arts (Philosophy for Theological Studies) Summa Cum Laude.

LAKE CHARLES -– CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer, Donald Lloyd II was recently named Distinguished Alumni of the Year at the Annual Lander University Alumni Association 2018 Awards Luncheon and Alumni Weekend in Greenwood, South Carolina.

LAKE CHARLES -- The celebration of the Sunday 9:30 a.m. Mass from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which has been broadcast live on the radio - KLCL (1470-AM), since the beginning of the Diocese of Lake Charles and additionally - more recently - on Jennings' KJEF-AM (1290-AM) as well streaming on both stations' websites, will now also be aired on Radio Maria 91.1 FM beginning May 13, continuing on each second Sunday thereafter.

LAKE CHARLES – The Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lake Charles, those located in Calcasieu Parish, will begin the 2018-2019 school term on Thursday, August 16, 2018 and end on Friday May 24, 2019, according to the 2018-2019 calendar released by the Office of Catholic Schools. Our Lady Immaculate Catholic School in Jennings will open its school year on Friday, August 10, to coincide with Jefferson Davis Parish public schools.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Chairmen for the Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations and the Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth have expressed gratitude for the openness and honesty of the young adults who participated as delegates to the Pre-Synodal Meeting in anticipation of this October’s Ordinary Synod of Bishops on Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment.

When our Lord rose in the synagogue of Nazareth to proclaim the words of Isaiah, He proclaimed this as His mission:  “’The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.   He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord’” (Luke 4:18-19).
