Dear Clergy and Lay Faithful of the Diocese of Lake Charles,
Now into our third week of recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Laura, I am writing to you in gratitude and to keep you informed about the concern and aid which has come to us from throughout the State and the Nation, especially from our Catholic community.

At the request of the Rev. James Wehner, Rector of Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, the Notre Dame Seminary Catholic Relief was organized to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura to bring relief to so many in need.
Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana, under the leadership of Sister Miriam Maclean, R.S.M., was on the ground running within hours of Hurricane Laura making landfall on August 27 in Southwest Louisiana.

While recovering from surgery and evacuated to Scott, La., Reverend Monsignor James Gaddy has been constantly on the phone, coordinating donations from across the country for his parishioners and all displaced by the wrath of Hurricane Laura.

I write to all of you from the Diocese of Lake Charles. We have seen the destruction and experienced the wind and water.
LAKE CHARLES –– Bishop Glen John Provost of the Diocese of Lake Charles announced on Tuesday, September 1, the leadership and organization for the recovery from Hurricane Laura of churches and facilities within the Diocese.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Family is the focus of the next multimedia Ave Explores series — Ave Explores: Catholic Family Life — hosted by Katie Prejean McGrady of Lake Charles.
Ave Explores: Catholic Family Life kicked off Wednesday, August 19, and will feature podcasts, an article, social media exclusives, and Facebook Live events each week through September 11. Contributors include Jackie and Bobby Angel, Emily Jaminet, Kathryn Whitaker, Damon and Melanie Owens, Timothy P. O’Malley, Fr. Cassidy Stinson, Danielle Bean, Ryan McQuade, and Lisa M. Hendey.
The newest Ave Explores series will celebrate the diversity of families and their role in the Church. From singles to couples with many children and from priests and religious to grandparents and grandchildren, viewers will learn how each family is called to holiness and to share their faith with the world.

The Office of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Lake Charles is committed to working around the clock to clear the path to re-open schools following the Category 4 hurricane that ravaged the Southwest Louisiana community on August 27.
Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana, with assistance from Second Harvest Food Bank, is expanding its food distribution to Ragley at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 16816 Highway 171.

The entire five-parish region of the Diocese of Lake Charles was impacted by Hurricane Laura’s brutal wrath of destruction as the Category 4 storm made landfall along the Gulf Coast in the early morning hours of August 27. But through it all, His Excellency, Bishop Glen John Provost never left the Diocese.
